Sydney Padgett, B.A, VCU Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Student

Graduate Research Assistant

In 2016, I earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Spelman College. Following graduation, I dedicated two years to teaching English Language Arts at Detroit Achievement Academy in Detroit, MI. In the fall of 2022, I embarked on the clinical program at VCU. My research interests center around identifying risk and protective factors for African American youth exhibiting externalizing behaviors, with a specific focus on enhancing their engagement with mental health services. My master's thesis focuses on examining the parenting behaviors between African-American mothers of children with and without Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Complementing my academic endeavors, my clinical interests involve exploring and developing culturally competent interventions to benefit African-American youth and their caregivers.
