Ayomide Popoola, BSc (Hons)

Graduate Student, VCU Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (Child/Adolescent Concentration)

Ayo is a current 3rd year graduate student in the FAMH Lab. She attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Honors Life Sciences and a Minor in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behavior. As an undergraduate, she engaged in meaningful, interdisciplinary research at various institutions, including McMaster University, the University of Toronto, and New York University. Following graduation, she worked as a full-time post-baccalaureate researcher for two years at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, collaborating with Dr. Wanjiku Njoroge on the Prenatal to Preschool (P2P) study, investing early child development and maternal mental health outcomes in Black families across Philadelphia. Her research interests are in the cultural adaptation of mental health interventions for pregnant Black women and exploring collaborative approaches with medical professionals to develop effective, culturally responsive psychological treatments within the Black community, emphasizing primary care and community-based settings. This aligns with her clinical interests in providing research-informed outpatient care to Black pregnant women within accessible community-based settings.
